Your Healthy Winter Hair Care

It’s officially winter in Australia! Whilst we may think that this is the perfect time to undo all of the heat and sun damage caused to our hair in summer, this doesn’t mean there aren’t still harsh conditions to consider in winter. In fact, the cold and dry winter air can be just as bad for our hair as the summer sun. To make sure you’re always having a #GoodHairDay, we’ve put together our top tips for keeping your hair healthy this time of year.

1. Shampoo Less Often
Our scalp tends to be drier and can be more prone to itching during winter due to lack of moisture in the air. Lighten up on the cleansing to help with an itchy scalp. For those with a dry, flaky scalp, try an anti-dandruff shampoo like Biolage ScalpSync Anti-Dandruff Shampoo to address this concern.

2. Use Leave In Conditioner and Treatments
Dry air is not good for any hair type and the only way to combat this is to ensure you hair is getting extra moisture. Try using a leave-in conditioning treatment like Matrix Total Results Moisture Me Rich Moisture Cure to revitalise your hair for lasting moisture and nourishment. You can also hydrate your hair overnight with an oil or serum to balance oil levels and keep hair moisturised. Try using Biolage Exquisite Oil Strengthening Treatment to strengthen and replenish fragile hair.

3. Cut Down on the Heat Heavy Styling Routine

Excessive heat and dryness can result in split ends and breakage. Always use a heat protectant on your hair when styling like Matrix Style Link Heat Buffer and reduce frequency of heat styling by opting for a low maintenance hair style, such as a bun or a braid.

4. Use Dry Shampoo For Volume If Your Hair Has Gone Limp
If you have oily hair you might find that your hair goes extra limp during winter. As you don’t want to over shampoo your hair, try using a dry shampoo like Matrix Total Results Miracle Extender to extend the number of days between washing.

5. Keep Your Home Warm But Not Hot, Including Your Shower

Winter brings exposure to more extreme hot and cold which can irritate your skin and scalp. This includes getting into a hot shower as hot water can dehydrate your hair. Try to keep the water temperature the same as you did in summer, or at least try to turn the temperature down a little bit.

6. Get Your Hair Trimmed Regularly

Whether you have long or short hair, winter can make the ends of your hair dry and brittle. Ensure you are visiting your salon to get regular trims, as this will reduce the risk of split ends and get your hair through winter looking its optimal best.
