The Art of Gifting Matrix x Sar.ra

matrix sarra

At Matrix, we believe that the joy a gift brings should extend beyond the receiver, to benefit the entire community. Matrix are proud to announce the launch of our limited edition collection of shampoo and conditioner gift packs created with Aboriginal artist and designer Rachael Sarra, which champion this sentiment and our uplifting new brand ethos. There are 8 packs within this collection, suited to all hair types, and each individually designed in collaboration with Rachael to bring the colourful concept to life.

ABOUT THE COLLABORATION

The Matrix x Sar.ra collection is designed to evoke thoughts to believe and to dare to dream - no matter who you are or where you're from. The collection celebrates the diversity of our people, the beauty of our landscapes, and encapsulates the colourful heartbeat of Australia pulsing through us all, starting at the heart of the longest continuing culture in the world, our First Nations communities.

In support of this partnership, Matrix are also donating $10,000 to a community organisation selected by Rachael – Sisters Inside.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Rachael Sarra is an artist and designer whose work is an extension of her being and experiences. As a contemporary Aboriginal artist from Goreng Goreng Country, Rachael uses art as a powerful tool in storytelling to educate and share Aboriginal culture and it’s evolution. Rachael’s work often challenges and explores the themes of society's perception of what Aboriginal art and identity is

Her style is feminine, fun and engaging but is strongly drawn from her heritage and her role as an Aboriginal woman in a modern world.

ABOUT SISTERS INSIDE

Established in 1992, Sisters Inside is an independent community organisation based in Queensland, which advocates for the collective human rights of women and girls in prison, and their families, and provides services to address their individual needs.
Criminalisation is usually the outcome of repeated and intergenerational experiences of violence, poverty, homelessness, child removal and unemployment, resulting in complex health issues and substance use. First Nations women and girls are massively over-represented in prison due to the racism at the foundation of systems of social control.
The Matrix x Sar.ra campaign will run until the 26th of May, which is Australia’s National Sorry Day. On this day, Matrix will make a $10,000 donation to Sisters Inside as recognition and acknowledgement of the mistreatment of Australia’s Indigenous peoples.
