We had a chat to Global Hairdresser of the Year 2018 recipient, Kobi Bokshish, as he shares his incredible experience and tricks of the trade that enabled him to become so successful.

What does it mean to you to represent Australia at the Global TCT Awards?
It was an absolute honour to represent Australia at such a prestigious global event. I have always believed that hard work always pays off and it was truly a humbling experience, being alongside the most talented hairdressers and creatives our industry has to offer. A huge shout out goes to my amazing team who have supported me and made this incredible experience possible. It is such an achievement, of which I am incredibly proud of.

Where do you seek out your inspiration?
Being so heavily involved in the industry, I seek out my inspiration from day to day occurrences, as well as the incredible events and fashion shows that I have the opportunity be a part of. I am also truly inspired by my need to give my clients great results and an incredibly memorable experience every visit. I love pushing the boundaries and seeing the magical results.

What was the highlight of your experience in Canary Islands?
The opportunity to network and meet new talented industry professionals – they are truly an inspiring community. The entire event was a buzz, I also loved the opportunity to bring my collection to life at the live hair show as well as take part in an editorial photoshoot for a well-respected Spanish trade publication.
Do you have any advice for aspiring hairdressers?
First of all, hard work pays off. In this industry, you have to hustle. It’s all about committing to learning more, pushing your technical skills and creating something new and inspiring. Secondly, create what ultimately inspires you – inspiration is all around you. Lastly, it’s so important to expand your network within the industry – attend trade shows, be an advocate for a brand that aligns with you and get your name out there.
